Practical info
Everything you need to arrive well: directions, gate times, site rules, money, connectivity and what to pack for a spring weekend on a working farm.
Kromrivier Farm, on the R406 between Greyton and Riviersonderend
The venue is about two hours' drive from Cape Town — but don't just follow Google Maps blindly.
- Take the N2 from Cape Town toward Riviersonderend.
- Ignore the Jongensklip turnoff that Google Maps may suggest — it puts you on a long, rough dirt road.
- Instead, turn left onto the R406 at the Lindeshof turnoff before Riviersonderend, and follow the signs toward Greyton.
- Cross the bridge, turn left at the T-junction, and continue until you reach the Kromrivier Farm sign.
The final stretch from the R406 turnoff to the Kromrivier Farm sign is about 15 km of dirt road in good condition — fine for normal cars, just take it gently.
Address for reference: Kromrivier Farm, Riviersonderend, 7250.
Gates, age and entry
- Gates open at 12:00 on Friday 18 September. Music concludes at 16:00 on Sunday.
- No under-18s. This is an adults-only event and IDs will be checked at the gate.
- Over-60s attend free. Present a valid ID at the gate.
- Tickets are sold through Quicket — one-off payment or a payment plan spread over three months.
Plan to be a little off-grid
- No ATM on site. Vendors will have wi-fi for card payments, but bring some cash as backup.
- Very limited cell reception. Download your directions before you leave, tell people where you'll be, and arrange meeting points with your crew.
- The bar serves a combination of alcoholic drinks and nootropic energy drinks.
The non-negotiables
Kromrivier is a working farm and a natural site. These rules protect it — and everyone on it.
No glass
Please decant everything into cans, plastic or flasks before you arrive.
No pets
Leave your furry friends at home — a festival on farmland is no place for them.
No private fires
No fires of any kind at your camp. A central sacred fire burns at the Mellow Meadow — gather there.
Swimming, with care
No swimming in the dam, and no swimming at night. The river is open for a dip — expect properly cold spring water.
Leave no trace
Pack out what you pack in, sort your waste correctly and care for the land. Read the full policy →
Look after each other
The event runs a disaster management plan and has security on site, but Earthdance works on mutual care. If someone needs help, help.
Pack for spring on a farm
September at Kromrivier means warm days, properly cold nights, and a real chance of rain — it's the Western Cape, in spring, between two mountain ranges. The people who have the best weekend are the ones who packed for all three.
Sleep & camp
A tent you trust (pegged well — wind happens), a warm-rated sleeping bag, a mattress or sleeping pad, a pillow, and one more blanket than you think you need. A groundsheet or tarp earns its space if rain comes through.
Day kit
Hat, sunscreen and sunglasses — the spring sun is honest. Solid closed shoes for uneven farm ground, a daypack, a picnic blanket, and swimwear plus a towel if you're brave enough for the river.
Night kit
A proper jacket, a beanie, warm socks and a thermal layer. A headlamp or torch (with spare batteries) for the walk between dancefloor and tent — there are no streetlights on a farm.
The practical layer
Your ID (checked at the gate), your Quicket ticket downloaded before you leave signal, some cash, a power bank, earplugs if you're a light sleeper, and any personal medication plus a small first-aid kit.
Eat & drink kit
A reusable water bottle and cup, plus your own plate, cutlery and cookware if you're self-catering — no kitchen equipment is provided on site. No glass: decant before you arrive.
Leave-no-trace kit
Bags for your own rubbish and recycling, and nothing single-use you don't have to bring. Whatever arrives with you leaves with you — the policy is short and worth reading.
Leave at home: glass, pets, your own fire-making ambitions, and sound systems for the campsite — the farm has the music covered.
What to expect on the ground
This is open farmland between the mountains — dancefloors, gathering spaces and camping spread across grass and natural terrain, with a river running past.
- Expect uneven ground and distances between spaces — solid footwear helps.
- Vehicle camping is available in designated areas for cars, camper vans and bakkies.
- Prefer a ready-made bed? Canvas glamping tents for two (bedding included, from R3,000) are bookable now on Quicket — see Glamping & Camping.
- Shared site facilities are provided, and a fuller facilities overview will be included in pre-event info closer to the event.
Small things that help
- Arrive in daylight if you can — pitching a tent by headlamp on your first night is a rite of passage nobody needs.
- Download everything before you leave: directions, your ticket, your music for the drive. Reception fades long before the farm gate.
- Tell your people where you'll be — with very limited signal, "back on Sunday evening" is the message to send on Friday morning.
- Share the drive. Two hours each way is far better with a full car, and fewer cars is better for the farm.
